Mumbai: In a tragic incident, a husband and wife along with their 15-year-old daughter committed suicide at their residence at Kamothe in Navi Mumbai on Sunday morning.

The incident took place in their flat at Indra Vihar Residency at Sector No 36 at around 9 am. Jasmine Patel (45) forced her daughter Oshin Dutta (15) to hang on a ceiling fan in their bedroom. Jasmine then committed suicide by hanging herself on the rod of the ceiling fan.

Jasmine was undergoing a prolonged illness and she was under depression.

According to the police, Jasmine had pre-planned the suicide and had convinced her daughter Oshin to take her life too. Jasmine was worried that after her death, there would be no one to take care of her daughter.

The husband Indrajit Dutta (50), who saw the dead bodies of his wife and daughter, is in a state of complete shock. Dutta brought down the body of Jasmine and Oshin. He left a suicide note stating that in the absence of his wife and daughter, he no longer wanted to live. Indrajit hanged himself on the rod of a ceiling fan in the living room.

Jasmine was practising as a doctor at a hospital in Navi Mumbai while Indrajit was working as an engineer at a private firm.
According to Hemant Nagrale, the Commissioner of Police, Navi Mumbai, “Jasmine was suffering from a prolonged illness. In her suicide note, she wrote, “Since I have been ailing, I do not want to live my life anymore. I don’t want to keep back my daughter, so we are committing suicide together.”

In her suicide note, Jasmine had requested that their bodies should be handed over to the anatomy department of the King Edward Memorial Hospital for medical studies.
